Have you ever cooked a meal for a romantic date that you hoped would have a happy ending? If you have, chances are that you’ve cooked a sumptuous feast to impress your date – a meal that might very well have left you both feeling bloated and in need of a time out, instead of feeling frisky and in the mood for a new sensual adventure. Not really the evening you had in mind, am I right?

Having had dates like that myself and knowing many people who have done exactly the same, I decided to find out which foods are perfect before sex and even as snacks in between hot, long sessions.

I’ve discovered that the best food for more mojo is food that feeds your body, your brain and your tastebuds all at the same time. However, not all food is equally suitable before heavy activity. So below I’ll give you my best advice for what to consider when you’re planning your dinner. I’ve even included two of my favorite recipes for sex food which will energize you and help you increase your sexual performance, so make sure you eat up.

Heavy Meals Impact Your Sexdrive

Although you and your date might both love big steaks with gravy and fries, you’ll be wise to choose something lighter if you want the evening to end the date in a sensual and playful way.

Meals with lots of meat, starch and grease can leave both of you feeling bloated, uncomfortable and gassy, which doesn’t exactly make most people want to get naked and play around. So, if you want the best conditions in terms of energy and sex drive, go for lighter dishes that will tickle your taste buds AND give you the vitamins and minerals you need. A delicious salad or fresh fish for instance.

Wine might complement your dinner perfectly and improve the meal’s overall taste experience, making it a preferred choice for many romantic dinners every day. Its abilities to calm your nerves is a definite upside to many and especially if it’s a first date, a few sips might be necessary.

But as mention in the blogpost ‘Food to avoid before sex’, alcohol also decreases our sensitivity, making us less able to feel the the many pleasurable sensations ahead. And wouldn’t it be a shame to miss out on some of the fun?

Adding to the downsides of alcohol, some men find that it impacts their ability to achieve and maintain an erection, causing their sexual stamina to plunge. Needless to say, you’re better off enjoying wine in moderation.

Start early

Improving your sexlife requires preparation and starting the morning before the date allows your body to digest the food and absorb all the beneficial nutrients.

I’ve consulted Umahro Cadogan, one of Scandinavia’s leading food gurus, who is specialised in biochemistry, health gastronomy and functional medicine. If anybody knows what to eat in order to increase your sexdrive and make you a lean, mean sex machine, it’s him.

One of Umahro’s pieces of advice is to start the day with a fresh juice made of ginger, beetroot, apple and lemon (you’ll find the recipe further down). Combining those four ingredients will increase your blood flow, which is exactly what you need when you want to heighten your sensitivity, perform better and make love for a longer period of time.

You can drink the juice in the morning, at noon and in the evening before a date, or you can make it a fixed part of your daily routine, in order to increase your sex drive and energize your body.

Refuel And Energize Your Brain

Having sex for a long time might mean that you’ll be needing breaks, especially if you are to enjoy and perform several times in a day. By turning your breaks into snack breaks, your brain will get extra energy and help you get ready again faster.

Two snacks, that are both delicious and easy to handle, are strawberries and dark chocolate, with high cocoa contents (70-85%). My favorite, however, is Umahro’s ice cream which is full of yummy goodness. It’s healthy, only takes about 3 minutes to make and can be tweaked to your liking.

The only downside is that you can’t freeze the leftovers, so you’ll have to eat it all in one go. How unlucky can a girl be? You’ll find the recipe for Umahro’s ice cream below.

Juice that will spark your sexdrive

You’ll need:

  • 25-100 grams of ginger, depending on how spicy you’d like the juice to be. If you’re not keen on ginger, use less ginger and more beetroot.
  • 500 grams of beet root, cleansed, not peeled.
  • 1 apple
  • 1 lemon with peel

Where possible, choose organic ingredients to make sure you’ll get get as many nutrients as possible. As a minimum, use organic lemon to ensure the peel is not surface treated.

Put all ingredients in a juicer and your juice will be ready in no time. If the ingredients are too big to fit in the juicer, slice them up before putting them in the machine.

Ice cream to refuel your body in between steamy sex sessions

For 4 servings you’ll need:

  • A food processor (it might not work in a blender)
  • 300 grams of frozen berries, e.g. strawberries, blueberries or raspberries.
  • 1 banana or 0.5-1 mango
  • 10-12 dried dates without stones or dried apricot.
  • 1 deciliter coconut milk or freshly squeezed organic lemon or orange.
  • 0.25 teaspoon vanilla powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon

Put all the ingredients in your food processor and leave it for a few minutes, until everything is mixed well and has turned into smooth ice cream.

If you’re feeling adventurous, add some more aromatic spices. E.g.liquorice root powder, ground clove or cardamom.
